NEPAL. Useful information

We arrived at Kathmandu by bus from Siliguri in India (near Darjeeling). Were 20 hours away in the night, a terrible road in a rickety bus. Also, we played in the last row, the more uncomfortable, so we get sick.

Buses leave on the afternoon of Siliguri. The price is 460 Rupees.

KATHMANDU

Thamel is the place for tourists. Streets bars, pubs , pizzerias, music, nightclubs, hotels , shops mountain , tourists  and more tourists , even at night.

- Accommodation :

The good of Thamel there is such a concentration of accommodation, you can visit several, compare, negotiate (a little) and then decide.

The price depends on how many nights you stay, for  if water heated is electric or solar ( not always hot ), services, etc. . The normal price is 500 rupees Nepalese. For several nights and solar energy , can be found for 300-400 rps.

We stayed in " Tibet Peace Guesthouse " . Price : 300 rps with bathroom.

Food :

Thamel area there are many places with food internationally . Sometimes it is so cheap.
So to save, it is best to leave this area. We went to a non-tourist broiler, with a variety of food with good quality - price. It's a franchise, but do not remember the name.

Shopping:

Nepal has a reputation of being cheap to buy climbing equipment. They are copies. We were looking at several things, but we are not convinced the quality, very bad. Also, prices are not cheap and care is abysmal. If they do not treat you badly purchases. They get angry if you ask something that is not dirty (when you take a long time displayed on the street is normal soiling). Anyway, best to buy Decathlon.

Places to visit :

Katmandu is chaotic, but not so big, so it p ou can walk in the midst of  chaos.
To go to the nearby tourist towns you can go by public transport in minibus for about 10-20 rps . Ask at the  hotel where they  catch them.

Durbar Square

Is supposed to pay 300 rps .   It is a place open to the public , it is quite dirty and crowded, tourists and Nepalis. We do not pay, said  it was the second day there, we had already paid and we were just passing through.

Swayambunath . You can walk up. 200 rps entry charge. Nor pay, let us in free, making him the guard faces.

Patan (200 rps ) and Bhaktapur (750 rps ) : E is the price that foreigners have to pay to visit the villages. Sometimes they do not control . S on the best places to visit near Kathmandu .

Van / minibus to Patan 10 R and 15 R. Bhaktapur

The Himalaya s. Kathmandu is so dirty, dusty and polluted , it is very difficult to see the mountains here. The roads are terrible , the price is high and is not sure that is the Himalayas . For us, it is better to go to Pokhara to enjoy the scenery.

BUS KATHMANDU -  POKHARA

All buses leave from a street near Thamel , more or less at the same time ( early morning ) .

It takes 7 hours approx . The road is pretty good. The agencies tell you that there are different services and prices, but t ll buses offer more or less the same. buses are new, comfortable. Better to ask several gencies . The price is 350 rps.

POKHARA

It's a respite  after Kathmandu. It is a quiet , has few inhabitants, all are well prepared for tourists and the place is nice . yes, it is for those who like the mountain because there are no sites or Patan Durbar type to visit everything revolves around the Himalayan mountaineering and tourism.

It is also a paradise for paragliders.

Accommodation :

There are many hostels,  houses with gardens and terraces , all new and clean.  When you get to Pokhara by bus , they ( hotels) are waiting for tourists, sometimes heavy. They offer free taxi. It is best not to compromise, and decide to look at alternatives. You have to look at the hot water system, because usually solar and nothing works well in bad weather.

We paid 300 rps, with private bath in Sakura Guesthouse. Llipio good, but all the same.

Food :

Baidam street  full of shops , restaurants, nightclubs , travel agencies ... 100% set up for tourism. But sometimes the prices are in dollars. Very hard to find food supply.

The entrance to the park costs 2.000rps, if only you are going to be 1 day. At first we were going to make a 3-day route, but we had no proper clothing because it was colder than we had anticipated. Gave up and made a small path around 2 days without paying the entrance.

Mini-Trek Naudanda - Kaski - Sarangot - Pokhara .

It was a very good, with no tourists , with local people and children , a trek nice , easy ... and without paying .

In the morning, take the bus in the center of Pokhara (ask  at the  hotel where is the bus station), it is necessary to take  taxi, abusing the price. Ap Naudanda . There are 35 rps,  1 hour.
Here begins the trek to Sarangot . To see the view super , you can climb the mountain and take a look and then go down and continue. They are  5 hours of walking, f acyl .  There are  small houses and villages and fields, not  tourists.

In Sarangot there are few guesthouses, no restaurants . It's basic but fine for the night (about 100 rps / room) and dinner in the hotel contract.

If you want to get up early to see the   sunrise, better ask your hotel a place you do not charge (there are many with similar views). Nor do you need early, everything depends on the weather. The view is magical, you see  the Anapurna and valleys.  L fter taking the  route down  to the lake and Pokhara .

Other Plans:

- Visit the Stupa . It can be seen from the lake , at the top of the mountain. Just go and cross the bridge and up the forest. He gets in  2 hours (just back ) . Along the way many people will tell you that is  dangerous and  difficult, they want to serve as a guide and collect. It is okay to go alone, the view is  beautiful, with the lake and the Annapurna .

- Rent a bicycle.

- Jump paragliding

- Visit other lakes
