CAIRO - BAHARIYA
Bahariya is the nearest oasis to Cairo and therefore the most visited, become a "city safari" full of 4x4.
Transportation : Bus (van) from Cairo: 4 hours drive away. 25 LE.
Hostel in Bahariya : Safari Camp.60 Le With private bath and breakfast. Clean but the owner believes the Sheriff of the town and the owner of the oasis.
Excursions :
The hotels offer excursions to the White Desert and the black desert. Our "sheriff" is pissed off because we wanted to ask the people for the cost of the tours, we caught pressures to do with it.
They call 150 - 200 Le for 2 days - 1 night. We did not. It is best to form a group to share expenses, but as we went in low season it was not possible to get 2 more people.
There are also renting a 4x4 for the day.
Bahariya - DAKHLA
Transportation : Bus. 50 LE. 1 bus dayly. Passes from 10 in the morning.
Hostel in Dakhla , El Qasr. It is the only hostel in town. Very basic, clean looks that make the death of a king (and no more). But Mohamed, the owner, is charming. Good food and huge portions, rich and very cheap. Room20 L with breakfast (shared bathroom). There are no private bathrooms.
Views :
- Town of The Qsar. Very interesting.
- Oasis: Walking between the crop and the lake. Nice ride through the desert.
Dakhla - Kharga
Transport : Bus 3 hours. We do not remember the price.
Mout We stayed in the city. Cheap Hotel and correct (do not remember the name or the price).
As it is touristy, people are very friendly and disinterested.
Kharga - Luxor :
Transportation : Taxi shared with 4 other tourists. Abdalahh, the driver is quite a character. The journey takes 8 hours. 100 LE per person. Stop at the necropolis of Balawat for a short visit.
