EGYPT. Luxor and Abu Simbel. Useful Information

LUXOR

Hostel : Oasis (Sharia Mohammed Farid, south of the station, along Sofra Restaurant). Very good. 40 LE with bath and breakfast. Terrace. Laundry.

First night at Hotel Fontana. 35 LE, no bathroom. Poor care.

We must devote at least 3 days to visit: 1 in Luxor, Karnak 1, 1 West Side.

Bike rental in Luxor: 10LE per day. Catch comes in handy to go to Valley of the Kings and Queens, across the Nile (ferry crosses 1LE). On the other side is the same price.

The collective cost to move Luxor 1LE.

- Luxor Temple : 50 Le (25 for students). Save the entry to re-enter at night lit. Magic.

- Temple of Karnak : 70/35 Le. You can walk along the edge of the Nile to the north.3 km. Incredible place. Most.

- Valley of the Kings (3 tombs to choose): 80 /40 Le. Well aware of which tombs are open. Touthmosis III, Seth Tausert Nakht and Ramses IV. Good selection, very different from each otras.Toutankhamon and Ramses VI extra (80L), do not enter.

- Valley of the Queens : 40 /20 Le. 3 graves when we visited. Nefertiti closed (only for super VIP). We recommend visiting the Valley first, although in these tombs are bright colors may seem less impressive if they are later than those of kings.

- Temple of Ramses III - Medinet Habou: 30 /15 Le. Little visited, interesting and complete. Recommended.

 - Hatshepsut Temple : 30/15 L. The best: the site, the landscape. Worst: tourism and very hyper rebuilt.

- Valley of the Nobles: 30 / 15 L. Simpler. Quick Tour.

- Museum of mummification: 50/25 L. Small but interesting.

- Luxor Museum: expensive (70L) and do not enter.

LUXOR - ASWAN : Train, 25 Le. 3 h. Several a day. Took the morning. In this way there is no problem of quotas.

ASWAN

Hostel : Noor Han (south station, main street, 2nd street left). 40 LE with bath and breakfast. Acceptable. Next, Yassin Hotel (30 L) But seedy.

- Elephantine Island. Public boat1 Le. Nilometer and archaeological site. Free entered by the back door. No people. To the north, Nubian village.

Abu Simbel

It is mounted so that it is almost compulsory to take the tour and go in convoy escort. So all the tourists go together at 4 in the morning and visit the ruins at the same time with limited time. Horrible for those not accustomed to traveling well.

We try to find alternatives to the tour that everyone does, but eventually hired with the hotel.

Tour price : 80 Le, separate entrances. Includes transport, waiting at Philae, in the dam (no one got) and the unfinished obelisk (we did not visit).

Leaves at 4 am. Abu Simbel takes up about 3 h. Dejan 2 hours for the visit. All tourists together. The beauty of the place can not be enjoyed with so many people, by the early start, and run - run.

We must go by bus, because if you hire taxi from Aswan, they force you to go in the caravan of 4 in the morning. The best thing is to form groups of 4 to share the cost of taxis.

You take the bus that leaves at 8 am. From the bus stop you take taxi to the temples.

The return can not make the bus because not enough time. You have to go by taxi. If you're lucky you can catch a bus, but if you go in group, you are better and faster the taxi.


Philae Temple: 50 Le (25 students). Very different. Nice location on an island.

If you want to go to Philae, which is included in the tour stop, you can rent a taxi for 50Le Aswan. In addition, you must pay the boat. So better to go in groups.

We, the group paid for the boat tour 5LE per person, after hard bargaining peer group who spoke Arabic.
